Prenatal Yoga

Creating space. This is the intention and purpose for adapting the yoga practice to a growing belly, home to a growing baby. There is much variation between each of the three trimesters; the first being gentle and subtle, the second more movement and flow, and the third restorative and grounded.

Beyond the asana, pranayama practices such as bhramari (humming bee) and nadi shodhana as well as chanting Om can be useful tools to practice for labour. It is important to not do any practices that have exhalation retention because this will stop blood flow to the baby. Focusing on the ‘mmm’ sound of the Om enables the energy to become inward and grounded.

Establishing a meditation practice during this time to connect with the baby before arriving Earth side is another opportunity to navigate the spiritual path. This can be even more true if the mother is not physically carrying the baby in her own womb.

Stay tuned for upcoming six week prenatal programs to become familiar with the variety of postures available to practice during this special time with an additional benefit of meeting other mothers to be. Private one on ones are also available – please enquire for availability.
